Refund & Return Policy

At Backcountry Sportsman, we stand behind the quality of the products we sell. Because we offer both standard-sized items and large or heavy products that require freight shipping, return eligibility and processes may vary by product type. Please review this policy carefully before initiating a return.


1. Return Window

Eligible items may be returned within 30 days of delivery.
Return requests submitted after 30 days will not be accepted.


2. Eligibility for Returns

To qualify for a return, items must be:

  • Unused, uninstalled, and in original condition

  • In original packaging with all components included

  • Accompanied by proof of purchase (order confirmation or receipt)


Non-Returnable / Final Sale Items

The following items are not eligible for return:

  • Clearance or final sale items

  • Gift cards

  • Custom, personalized, or made-to-order products

  • Used, installed, or damaged items (unless defective upon arrival)


3. Oversized & Freight-Shipped Items (Important)

Certain products—such as kayaks, canoes, rooftop tents, rigid boards, and other oversized or heavy equipment—are shipped via freight delivery.

Freight return conditions:

  • Freight items are not eligible for free return shipping

  • Customer is responsible for all return freight costs, including pickup, palletization, and carrier fees

  • Original freight shipping charges are non-refundable

  • Some freight items may be non-returnable once shipped due to size, handling, or supplier restrictions (this will be noted on the product page when applicable)


Freight Damage Policy

If a freight item arrives damaged:

  • Damage must be noted on the delivery receipt at time of delivery

  • You must notify us within 48 hours of delivery

  • Photos of the damage and packaging are required

Failure to document damage at delivery may void eligibility for a freight damage claim.


4. How to Initiate a Return

All returns require authorization.

To request a return:

  1. Contact us at:

  2. Include:

    • Order number

    • Item(s) you wish to return

    • Reason for the return

  3. If approved, we will issue a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) and provide return instructions.

Items returned without an approved RMA may be refused and returned to the sender.

We strongly recommend using a trackable shipping method. Backcountry Sportsman is not responsible for items lost or damaged in return transit.


5. Return Shipping Costs

  • Customers are responsible for all return shipping costs

  • This includes freight shipping, where applicable

If a return is due to our error (incorrect item shipped or confirmed defective item upon arrival), we will:

  • Cover return shipping costs or

  • Provide a prepaid return label when appropriate


6. Refund Process

  • Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method

  • Refunds are processed within 5–7 business days after the returned item is received and inspected

  • Original shipping and freight charges are non-refundable, unless the return is due to our error


7. Exchanges

We do not offer direct exchanges.

To exchange an item:

  • Complete the return process for the original item (if eligible)

  • Place a new order for the replacement item
